Pappy + Harriets Spring Spotify Playlist

Pioneertown was originally the creation of Hollywood. Yep, in 1946, a group of filmmakers built a cowboy movie set in the high desert with stables, jails, ice cream parlors, bowling alleys, and a cantina saloon. Roy Rogers, Gene Autry and the Sons of the Pioneers (for whom the town was named) were some of the original investors who helped build and invent Pioneertown.

In 1972, the cantina, known today as Pappy and Harriets, was purchased by Harriet’s mother, Francis Aleba and her husband John. The Cantina became an outlaw biker bar that was open for a decade before it closed. Francis and John kept the building in the family and in 1982 their daughter Harriet and her husband Claude “Pappy” Allen, re-opened, “Pappy + Harriet’s Pioneertown Palace.” While the bikers still hung around, The Palace quickly became a local favorite with all walks of life.

In 2003, new owners came full circle developing the venue as an entertainment destination for musicians, attracting all musical genres and artists from around the world. The Tex Mex restaurant was also featured on Anthony Bourdain’s show No Reservations. Iconic talents from Robert Plant, Paul McCartney and Lucinda Williams to newer recording giants like Arctic Monkeys and Lizzo have all graced this intimate venue.

Book your next trip around a great show at this one of a kind music venue. Open Air has compiled a Spotify playlist of the musicians (3 songs each), playing over the next 6 months. Catch a vibe, find your favorites and buy tickets before they sell out.

The calendar features an eclectic range of genres from the hypnotic psychedelic instrumentals of the Bitchin Bajas to the Honkey Tonk show tunes of Riders In The Sky. February’s line up is fire with the “soulful texture” of Bobby Oroza and Black Joe Lewis serving up some James Brown feels. If you're lucky the breathtaking Neo Oldie sounds of The Altons and Thee Sinseers isn't sold out. We may have just grabbed the last tickets. New Orleans’s The Deslondes and Nashvilles’s own Emily Nenni are country gold.

Also hailing from Tennessee's song city, husband and wife duo, The War and Treaty, are set to bring the house down with some hearty southern soul. Joe Pug is a Dillion-esque delight while the punk Japanese Otoboke Beaver is full female screamo. Nick Hakeem is a sexy smooth date and Gone Gone Beyond is hands down a top favorite future-folk pick with their “message of hope and desire to return to the roots of humanity.”

We recently updated but please note Pappy & Harriets do add shows sporadically. In case you missed it, here is the Pappy & Harriets Spring Spotify playlist by Open Air Foto.
